About Marian Frick Rigsbee, LCSW, MAC

Hi, I’m Marian.

I bring warmth, playfulness, and a sharp mind to the therapy room. I empower people to feel more present in their lives and more connected to what truly matters. I specialize in helping adults navigate anxiety, substance use, trauma, and the emotional overload that can come from just trying to keep it all together.

I work with all kinds of people, although I especially love working with those who feel like they can't get out of their heads and are always moving. They may try to problem-solve their way out of every situation, including their own pain. I deeply appreciate the uniqueness each person brings to our world and welcome the chance to get to know you. With curiosity, openness, and humor, we’ll explore what’s keeping you stuck and help you move toward a rich and meaningful life.

About Marian Frick Rigsbee, LCSW, MAC

My journey to becoming a therapist…

Part of my path to becoming a therapist includes having done therapy myself over the years. I know anxiety, perfectionism, trying to problem-solve my way out of pain, and the highs and lows of modern parenting. These struggles don’t make me exceptional, they make me human. I also believe in the saying, 'People can only go as far with you as they’ve gone with themselves.' I don't believe that anyone needs therapy to know themselves deeply. For me, though, it’s been invaluable. These experiences shape how I show up for others, not as someone with all the answers but as someone who’s experienced both sorrow and joy, shame and deep self-compassion. I've made my fair share of mistakes, and I am not afraid to go to the most difficult places with you.

Every day I am amazed that I am able to bear witness to deep change and growth. The most rewarding part of this work is realizing just how many good, thoughtful people are out there, people with goals, dreams, and a deep desire not only to live a good life but to improve the world. It’s inspiring, humbling, and keeps me hopeful.

values

Some of the values I hold are:

integrity

I care deeply about how I show up in this work. I strive to act with honesty, consistency, and care both inside and outside the therapy room. I work hard to align my actions with my values, and while I won’t always get it right, I aim to take responsibility when I make mistakes. This extends to how I work with clients, and I hold two things at once: openness to many forms of healing, and a commitment to rigorous standards. I take seriously my ethical responsibility to ground my work in established best practices and current research, and I am always learning.

autonomy

You are an independent person and only you get to decide what choices you make. For me, this very much includes supporting your bodily autonomy (a crucial component in being trauma-sensitive). I won't tell you what to do, how to live your life, or what to do with your body. I do hope to be a guide who supports you in living your chosen values. At the end of the day though, you're in the driver's seat.

acceptance

EVERYONE is welcome and safe in my practice. This includes LGBTQIA folks, people of color, religious, atheist, conservative, liberal, independent, those with different abilities, all body sizes and shapes...everyone.

In the therapy room, I use this word also to describe acceptance of difficult feelings and sensations. I practice this personally and will invite you to do the same.

cultural humility

This is a stance I return to again and again. I approach you with openness and curiosity, aware that I have my own blind spots.
